I’m Sally Luchich (Sally Bateman)

I have spent most of my life living in the Northern Territory, firstly in Darwin where I married and had two great kids and received tuition from local artist Shirley Dobbie. Life circumstances put art on hold whilst I studied full time to gain a Bachelor of Education. During this time I also studied in Ceramics focussing on hand building and glazing techniques. Many years later, now in Alice Springs, I resumed my passion for creating art and entered my first work in a long while into the Centralian Advocate Art Award auspiced by the Central Australian Art Society, and won the Stories section. However, yet to find my own space, it was another three years before I finally settled into the Sunshine Coast Hinterland close to Noosa and Eumundi, Queensland where I have now set up a studio in the Mary Valley. I have always been inspired by colour and composition and have  created big, bright and fast pastels and acrylic landscapes inspired from my travels in the Territory and Queensland. Since settling in Queensland, I have connected with many artists and belong to many, various groups.  I find this contact that was previously lacking, so enriching for my further development and view of life as an artist.
